SIGNING DAY: Midland Classical’s Ethan Hammontree signs with SMU Swim and Dive

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - Midland Classical star swimmer Ethan Hammontree is making his college dream come true.

Hammontree signed with the SMU Swimming and Diving program on Monday afternoon.

“It was pretty great,” Hammontree said of the signing day experience. “I was very excited, a little nervous, but this is the fun part. The hard part was practicing, meets, so this is just exciting.”

He recently finished a very successful senior season.

Hammontree won three gold medals at the TAPPS State Championship meet. He also set a new state record in the Boys 100m Butterfly event.

He joins a great Mustang program that has the 2026 ACC Diving Coach of the Year, Darian Schmidt, and sent eight athletes to the NCAA Championship.

“I’m excited to get faster,” Hammontree said. “I want to go to Trials, see if I can go to the Olympics, maybe.”
