FINDING FAMILY: The Heart Gallery of West Texas

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - An organization is giving foster children in the Permian Basin photo opportunities as they search for permanent families.

The Heart Gallery of West Texas takes children on outings to locations like butterfly gardens and parks, capturing photos that are then displayed inside businesses throughout West Texas.

“It’s a yes day, so we are going out there and buying them souvenirs, snacks, getting their picture taken and just having a lot of fun,” said Jenny Stubbs, who has worked with the Heart Gallery for 2.5 years.

Stubbs meets the children every few weeks wherever they are placed to take photos for the displays.

“We put up their pictures to get their stories out there and get their faces out there to let them know these kiddos are available,” Stubbs said.

The organization receives between three and five inquiries per month from people who saw a photo on the Heart Gallery and decided to start the adoption process.

“That’s what we are here for, to help these kiddos, and when I get inquiries I get really excited because it means not only did they see them, but they want to help,” Stubbs said.

Twenty-two permanent galleries are currently on display throughout West Texas. The organization is seeking additional businesses to host photo displays.

“And I’d be more than happy to visit with you to get a gallery set up. I’m not looking to change your business or your aesthetic. We are just wanting to get the information out there and do adoption recruitment for these kiddos,” Stubbs said.
