CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - West Texas A&M has named Kevin Bleil as its new offensive coordinator, the university announced today.

Bleil will join the Buffs coaching staff for the 2026 season after spending the past two years in the same role at Pittsburg State University.

Lynn praised the hire and welcomed Bleil’s family to the Texas Panhandle.

“I’m excited to welcome Kevin, Stephanie, Braelyn, Adley and Kensie to the Texas Panhandle. Coach Bleil builds great relationships with his players that last well beyond their collegiate career. The young men in our locker room are going to love coming to the field everyday,” Lynn said. “Kevin has made a name for himself as one of the top coordinators in the country at any level. We are extremely lucky to have him and his family join BuffNation.”

Strong offensive production

During his tenure at Pittsburg State, Bleil’s offenses consistently ranked among the nation’s best. This past season, the Gorillas posted 357.1 yards per game with a strong passing attack that contributed 223.0 yards through the air. The team finished 8-3 and earned a playoff berth.

In 2025, Pittsburg State captured a share of the MIAA Championship with a 10-3 record. The offense averaged nearly 395 yards and 29.2 points per game while securing the program’s fourth consecutive playoff appearance.

Extensive coaching resume

The new coordinator has worked at multiple levels throughout his career. He began as a student assistant at Akron before serving graduate assistant roles at Central Missouri and Iowa State. His time at Iowa State included working with his father, Bill Bleil, on a staff that guided the Cyclones to the 2012 Liberty Bowl.

Bleil’s first full-time position came at East Texas A&M, where he coached wide receivers for two seasons. The Lions’ 2014 offense dominated Division II statistics, leading the nation in multiple categories including scoring and total offense.

His connection with Lynn dates to 2015 when he joined the Nebraska-Kearney staff as quarterbacks coach. Bleil later earned promotion to co-offensive coordinator, helping improve all major offensive statistics during his time with the Lopers.

The Buffs will start their season at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on Aug. 27, hosting Western Colorado.
