COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M baseball relief pitcher Caden McCoy will miss the 2026 season because of an injury to his throwing elbow during spring practice, head coach Michael Earley confirmed to KBTX.

The injury will require Tommy John surgery.

As a freshman in 2025, the left-hander appeared in 14 games, logging a 3-2 record with two saves and a 4.91 ERA. He struck out 29 batters and walked nine in 22 innings pitched.

The Bloomington, Indiana, native saw limited action early in the season, but became a go-to arm later in Southeastern Conference play. He posted a season-high 3 2/3 innings against LSU on May 3, striking out six of 12 batters faced.

He played on a torn meniscus through the last month of the season, Earley confirmed.

The Aggies have experienced pitching depth, returning Shane Sdao, Josh Stewart, Weston Moss, Clayton Freshcorn, Grant Cunningham and Gavin Lyons. The Aggies also added transfers Juan Vargas, Hunter Bond, Ethan Darden, Cooper Powell and MJ Bollinger.

As spring practice opened, Earley said McCoy was in the mix for a starting job this season.

“From a pitching standpoint, Shane Sdao and Weston Moss, I’m pretty confident they are our top two guys, but Aiden Sims, [Clayton] Freshcorn, McCoy, they’re right there with them. I’d be foolish to say I don’t think one of those two, or both of them, are going to start on the weekend. I think there’s a high probability of that, but those other guys are pushing.”

News of McCoy’s injury was first reported by TexAgs.

The Aggies begin the 2026 campaign on Feb. 13 when they host Tennessee Tech at Blue Bell Park.
